Water on the surface can flow into a building's water storage. This mechanism allows for short term water storage to reduce peak flow caused by heavy rainfall.

Water storage in buildings can be implicitly activated or deactivated by adjusting their WATER_STORAGE_M2 attribute. If there are no buildings in the project area with water storage capacity, no water storage will take place.

When water flows onto a cell with a building capable of storing water, that water will be stored in the building until the building's water storage capacity has been reached. Water cannot leave that storage, neither through flowing back into the surface water model nor by being removed from it altogether. When the storage is full, no additional water cannot flow into that storage for the remainder of the simulation.
