Groundwater in the Tygron Platform is modeled in the form of a GeoTiff.

Groundwater is only used when the GROUND WATER attribute of the Water Overlay is set to COMPLETE, meaning the underground model is fully active.

The groundwater GeoTIFF will dictate the initial distance between the surface and the watertable. A greater value in the GeoTiff will mean a lower watertable. If there is no groundwater GeoTiff present, the water table is dictated by the WATER_LEVEL attribute of the water level area instead. If no water level area exists there either, the underground is assumed to be fully saturated, with the groundwater level equal to the surface height relative to datum.

For the Netherlands, a number of groundwater GeoTiffs are offered by default, based on data provided by The Netherlands Hydrological Instrument:

  • NL_GHG_kk-nhi (Average highest watertable)
  • NL_GLG_kk-nhi (Average lowest watertable)
  • NL_GVG_kk-nhi (Average spring watertable)
