When setting up a breach for a Flooding Overlay, the intent is for water to flow through it. That water must come from a defined source, and flow through a specific location. Water flowing through a breach is governed by, among other factors, the water level on either side of the breach. To properly measure the water level on the inside of the breach (e.g. , on the "dry" side of a levee), a specific breach level area can be configured, to define the location where water levels are measured for the purpose of water flowing through the breach.

How to add a breach with a level area to a Flooding Overlay manually:
  1. Make sure you already have a breach area defined, either with an input area or a virtual external area.
  2. Add an Area to the project. This will be the breach level area.
  3. Draw the breach level area in the Project area, in the location where the water level should be measures for the breach flow calculations.
  4. Add an Attribute to the created Area, with the breach level area attribute name and a value of choice. The attribute will make it available to select. Make sure this area is not a breach area itself.
  5. Also give the area a name that is easy to identify.
  6. Open the Overlay's configuration wizard and continue to the step concerning Breach growth.
  7. For the breach level area, select the created level area.
  8. Click on show to verify this is the correct area.
  9. Continue with the wizard.
