This article is a stub. The following information should be added:
  • expand on calculation, without solely relying on heat calculation
  • speed over heat is not the primary feature and should be moved to note or less prominent location on article

The Shadow Overlay stores the result of a Shade calculation caused by the sun. The sun's altitude and azimuth are stored as model attribute in the Shadow Overlay.

The sun's altitude and azimuth can be automatically configured using the Shadow Overlay Wizard. It allows users to specify dates; one or more days, each with one or more hours of that day. These dates, in combination with the project's world location are used to obtain the altitude and azimuth of the sun. Each individual date corresponds to a separate timeframe of the Shadow Overlay.

The shadow calculation takes into account both the Terrain Elevation and the Building Elevation. Additionally, the Foliage Height can be specified, or calculated automatically using a Foliage crown factor.

Notes

  • Shadow overlay is identical to the Shade result type of an Heat Overlay. However, using this specific Overlay is approximately 10 times faster then calculating the Shade with the overhead of the complete DPRA Heat Module.
